Somaliland’s Ministry of Health released a report indicating that the country has witnessed a significant rise in the number of people diagnosed with diabetes.
Recently, the health ministry carried out a survey on non-communicable diseases in the country.
Results of the survey proved that the number of diabetes cases has increased significantly.
Specifically, the ministry discovered that 19 percent of people in Somaliland live with diabetes.
Dr. Shukri Ahmed Sandon, the Director of Health within the ministry, confirmed the news to the public.
He attributed the rising cases to the changing lifestyle within the populace.
Dr. Sandon stated that more people in Somaliland have stopped physical exercises and embraced a sedimentary lifestyle.
Furthermore, he said that more people are no longer eating enough fruits or vegetables.
The lack of staple foods in Somaliland has also contributed to the rising cases of diabetes, Dr. Sandon confirmed.
