Somaliland Responds to Airport Incident Linked to Ex-President’s Guards

Hargeisa, Somaliland – Somaliland’s administration has confirmed an unexpected clash at Egal International Airport during former President Muse Bihi’s departure for the United Arab Emirates.

The incident arose from inadequate prior coordination on his travel plans with airport authorities.

Aviation Minister Fu’ad Ahmed Nour explained that Bihi arrived with a convoy larger than protocol permits, sparking tension and confusion. He mentioned a follow-up meeting that led to an agreement for more structured handling of his future travels.

Police spokesperson Abdiasis Sheikh Ismail stated the confrontation intensified when bystanders tried to force entry into the airport. Police have detained the soldier who fired shots pending investigation.

He added that the Police Commissioner has established a special committee for a thorough probe into the event.

This is not the first clash between the former President’s security detail and airport staff, as prior similar incidents have occurred.
