Somaliland Says UNSC is Misinformed on Las Anod Situation

Somaliland has accused the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) of being misinformed about the Las Anod situation.

Although it welcomed much of the statement by the UNSC, Somaliland added that the body lacks proper and accurate information on the situation.

It supported the call for a cessation of hostilities and the creation of conditions that bring about peace.

Somaliland supported the call for the withdrawal of troops from the region too. However, it felt that the Security Council does not have all the information.

In a press release dated June 8, Somaliland says that its troops moved out of Las Anod on February 26 and have been outside the city since then.

It faulted the Security Council’s lack of appreciation of the growing presence of Al-Shabaab in the area.
