Somaliland to Cooperate with Taiwan on Education, Healthcare, and Maritime Security

The governments of Somaliland and Taiwan have announced plans to cooperate on specific issues now that the two nations are strengthening diplomatic relations.

The areas they have put more emphasis on include healthcare, education, and maritime security.

Joseph Wu, the Taiwanese Minister of Foreign Affairs made this announcement through a press statement released on July 1, 2020.

In his statement, Wu confirmed that the two nations would be establishing representative offices in each other’s territory.

The two newly established offices would be known as Somaliland Representative Office and Taiwan Representative Office set up in Taipei and Hargesia respectively.

Other areas the two governments plan to focus on during their talks include ICT, agriculture, fisheries, energy, and mining.

Wu said the arrangement with Somaliland is part of Taiwan’s efforts aimed at enhancing cooperation with African nations.
