The government of Somaliland has announced plans to launch solar energy project in Erigavo on January 28.
Somaliland’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals announced that the project is to be officially launched on Thursday.
The people of Erigavo, which is the administrative capital of Sanaag region, would benefit from the launch of the 1MW solar power project.
With the launch of this project, local residents and businesses are expected to enjoy reliable power.
The cost of power is also expected to reduce significantly as the residents and businesses embrace solar power.
The project is the brainchild of the energy ministry together with United Kingdom’s AID Direct.
Another organization that partnered with the Somaliland administration to make the project a success is the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).
