Somaliland has announced that it would open the Representative Office in Taiwan in early September 2020.
On August 17, Taiwan opened its Representative Office in Somaliland.
The move came after a decision by the two countries to establish diplomatic relations and open representative offices in each other’s territory.
Somaliland has already appointed Mohamed Omar Hagi Mohamoud as its first Representative to Taiwan.
Mohamoud indicated that his office is expected to open its doors by September 9.
Furthermore, Mohamoud announced that his office would be staffed with a workforce of five individuals from Somaliland and two people from Taiwan.
Mohamoud clarified that two of his compatriots are already in Taipei ready to start working.
On August 26, he attended a seminar on the relations between Taiwan and Africa, which was organized by the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA).
The decision by Taiwan and Somaliland to set up representative offices in each other’s territory received huge backlash from both China and Somalia respectively.
Nevertheless, the two nations have opted to proceed with their move.
