Somaliland announced plans to prosecute all rape-related crimes in court.
This was agreed upon by the Council of Ministers in its recent meeting under the leadership of President Muse Bihi Abdi.
Historically, the options are often limited to the judicial system and traditional solutions.
However, if the proposal by the cabinet carries the day then all rape as well as sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) crimes will not resolved traditionally.
Instead, the courts will prosecute all such matters.
SGBV is a huge problem in Somaliland.
