Somaliland has agreed to implement a biometric voting system for its upcoming elections in 2024.
Somaliland Electoral Commission confirmed that it already reached an agreement with all political parties and other stakeholders regarding the use of the biometric system.
According to the electoral body, the new system will come into play in the elections scheduled for November 2024.
This decision aims to enhance the integrity and transparency of the electoral process by using technology to prevent fraud and ensure accurate voter identification.
The biometric system is expected to address concerns about voter registration and duplication, contributing to a more credible and trustworthy election.
This move aligns with broader efforts in the region to modernize electoral systems and strengthen democratic processes.
