The government of Somaliland has warned the Federal Government of Somalia against interfering with the works that DP World is doing at Berbera Port.
Earlier this week, Somalia’s foreign affairs ministry issued a hard-hitting statement castigating the UAE-based firm for interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
However, Somaliland has come to DP World’s defense by stating that Somalia has no authority over any project being undertaken in the country.
Somaliland has constantly sought recognition by the international community as a separate nation from Somalia.
During last week’s incident by the foreign minister, Ahmed Isse Awad, he indicated that the construction of the Berbera Port by DP World was a security threat to Somalia.
On its part, the Somaliland government has stated that the project would proceed as planned. DP World is expected to complete working on the world-class port this year right on schedule.
