Somaliland has assured refugees from Afghanistan that its borders remain open to them.
On Friday, August 27, a spokesperson from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told AFP in an interview that Somaliland would welcome Afghan refugees wholeheartedly.
Currently, the East African nation, which doesn’t enjoy much international recognition, is home to thouands of refugees from Ethiopia, Yemen, and Syria.
Thousands of Afghans have been fleeing from their country since Taliban took over power earlier this month.
Nevertheless, the foreign ministry official stated that the plans are at a preliminary stage and that many technicalities need to be worked out first.
