Somaliland’s Agriculture Ministry Receives Two Helicopters from FAO

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) delivered two helicopters to the Ministry of Agriculture in Somaliland early today.

FAO said the two choppers would be used in the fight against the locust invasion that threatens food security in the country.

Ahmed Mumin Seed, the agriculture minister, received the helicopters on behalf of the government of Somaliland.

Accompanying him during the handing over ceremony was the Director General in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Other dignitaries present at the event were the Director General of Civil Aviation in Somaliland and the Head of FAO’s Office in Somaliland.

The state-of-the-art helicopters, which are fitted with sprayers, will be operated by a crew of five, who include pilots and assistant pilots.

Currently, Somaliland and other countries in the Horn of Africa region are experiencing a second wave of locust invasion.
