Somaliland’s Ethiopian Consul Remains Empty for 10 Months

Somaliland’s Ethiopian Consul has been unoccupied for the last 10 months ever since the government replaced the former consul.

Shamsudin Ahmed Roble, the immediate former consul, was let go 10 months ago.

The Ethiopian government has yet to say why the office has remained empty almost one year later despite the increased demand for its services.

Somaliland’s Foreign Minister issued a statement to an Ethiopian paper saying that Ethiopia is on the verge of appointing and posting a new consul to the country.

Recently, Yasin Faraton, who is Somaliland’s Foreign Minister, said that the two countries continue to enjoy cordial relations.

The Ethiopian Consul is critical for boosting ties between the two nations, especially in trade and security.

Ethiopian Consul Offices in Hargeisa have been closed owing to the ravages and challenges of COVID-19, which have hit the region hard.
