Somaliland’s Foreign Minister in Turkey for an Official Visit

Yasin Haji Mohamud Hiir Faraton, Somaliland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has traveled to Turkey for an official visit.

While in Turkey, he is expected to hold meetings with his Turkish counterpart and other top government officials.

According to local reports, Faraton has traveled to Turkey on behalf of Somaliland’s President Muse Bihi Abdi.

His tour is part of the government efforts to earn the international recognition that the country craves since breaking from Somalia in 1991.

Further, reports indicate that Faraton is scheduled to update his Turkish counterparts on the progress of the recent talks between Somaliland and Somalia leaders in Djibouti.

The government of Turkey has expressed displeasure at the decision to exclude Olgan Bekar, the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia and Somaliland, from the Djibouti talks.

In the last month, Somaliland has enjoyed success in its pursuit of international recognition.

Taiwan not only established diplomatic ties with the Horn of Africa nation but also promised to deploy a Representative to Somaliland soon.
