Grand Sultan Mohamed Sultan Abdikadir of Somaliland died on February 12 in the breakaway nation’s capital.
Neither the government of Somaliland nor the family of the deceased issued a statement providing details of the cause of his death.
Abdikadir was eventually laid to rest in Hargeisa on Saturday.
Thousands of mourners, who included top government officials, attended his burial.
Grand Sultan Abdikadir was coroneted as traditional ruler in 1975. He has remained in that office for the last 46 years.
Abdikadir has played a critical role in fighting for peace and reconciliation in Somaliland.
