Bashwe Awil, Somaliland’s Head of Liaison to Kenya, has denied reports from Mogadishu that he is in detention.
Reports from the Federal Government of Somalia said that Awil had been arrested and detained in Nairobi.
However, Mogadishu is yet to mention the charges authorities in Nairobi preferred against Awil.
Consequently, Awil has come out strongly to oppose the reports terming them “falsehoods” employed by the government of President Mohamed Farmaajo for “dramatic” purposes.
Ambassador Awil reminded the people of Somalia of his utmost respect for them but blasted the government for lying to them.
Contrary to reports that he has been detained, Awil clarified that he has been in the United Arab Emirates for the last two months because of COVID-19.
