Opposition parties in Somaliland have welcomed the recent announcement by the government regarding elections date.

On February 2, the House of Elders endorsed the date recommended by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and approved by both the House of Elders and President Muse Bihi Abdi.

Wadani and UCID, the two main opposition parties in the breakaway region, welcomed the decision to hold elections on May 31, 2021.

Abdirahman Irro, the Chairman of Wadani Party, commended the decision to hold elections by the end of May.

While hailing the decision, Irro predicted that more young people would not only vie but also win elections.
