Somaliland has finalized plans to open its Representative Office in Taiwan on Wednesday September 9, 2020.
The move represents the final step in the announcements the governments of the two nations made in early July.
Back then, the two nations announced that they would be opening representative offices in each other’s territories to strengthen diplomatic relations between them.
Taiwan already opened its offices in Somaliland in August.
Analysts believe that the move is likely to determine whether the two nations would now take the next step and open full diplomatic relations.
However, the measures taken thus far have attracted plenty of international attention.
Somalia has condemned Taiwan for recognizing and establishing diplomatic ties with Somaliland, which it considers part of its territory.
Similarly, China has been adamant that no country can establish diplomatic relations with Taiwan, which it considers its territory too.
On Tuesday September 8, Somaliland’s Representative to Taiwan, Mohamed Omar Hagi, visited Joseph Wu, Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
