Somaliland’s Transport Ministry Suspends Employee for Social Media Misconduct

Somaliland’s Ministry of Transport and Road Development has suspended an employee for social media misconduct.

The ministry found the employee, identified as Ismail Ali Ahmed, guilty of breaking the government’s code of ethics.

Sayid Omar Abdillahi, the Director General at the ministry, officially apologized to members of the public over the posts appearing on the ministry’s Facebook page.

According to the ministry, Ahmed posted “unethical” content on the ministry’s Facebook page. Ahmed’s recent postings on the transport ministry’s Facebook page went viral on social media.

In one of those posts, Ahmed told a woman to stop blaming recent rise in accidents on a language that many people consider “offensive.”

The ministry has requested Ahmed to hand over his office. He has also been suspended from managing the ministry’s social media platform and content.
