Dr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Bulale, the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare, co-chaired a high-level meeting with officials from the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) on Tuesday.
The meeting underscores the Somali government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing humanitarian and medical emergency coordination for communities affected by conflict. This initiative aligns with previous efforts to bolster healthcare support in regions impacted by terrorism.
For instance, in November 2024, SoDMA reiterated its dedication to providing emergency healthcare by facilitating the establishment of an Emergency Care Center at Medina General Hospital. This state-of-the-art facility, capable of accommodating 200 patients, was designed to offer comprehensive support to individuals affected by both natural and man-made disasters. The launch was attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who emphasized the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence for the country’s socio-economic growth.
More recently, in March 2025, SoDMA dispatched 11 trucks carrying humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and tents, to the regions of Ceelcali Axmed and A-lkowsar in the Middle Shabelle region. This mission aimed to support approximately 15,000 displaced families affected by recent insurgent attacks.
SoDMA Chairman Mohamud Moallim Abdulle emphasized the agency’s commitment to delivering similar assistance to any region that liberates itself from insurgent control.
These concerted efforts reflect the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that both civilians and security forces have access to urgent healthcare and medical support amid ongoing conflicts.
