Somali’s Deputy Speaker Meets Kenyan Defense Minister’s Husband

The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House) is in Nairobi for a meeting with the husband of Kenya’s Minister of Defense.

Deputy Speaker Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Muudeey reportedly traveled to Nairobi to meet Professor Peter Kagwanja, the husband of Monica Juma, the Minister of Defense.

Juma serves as the current Minister of Defense in the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Muudeey’s meeting with Kagwanja is significant because of the recent diplomatic spat between Kenya and Somalia.

More importantly, Deputy Speaker Muudeey is one of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s staunchest supporters.

It is not clear when the First Deputy Speaker traveled to or arrived in Kenya, though.

Recently, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) held an extraordinary session in Djibouti to discuss Somalia’s diplomatic fight with Kenya.

During the session, which took place in December 2020, IGAD encouraged Somali and Kenyan leaders to sort out their differences diplomatically.
