Somali’s Spy Agency Financing Attacks by Al-Shabaab in Kenya

Somali’s spy agency, the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), is responsible for financing attacks by Al-Shabaab in Kenya.

A confidential report that Garowe Online saw reveals that NISA has been working closely with Al-Shabaab militants to carry out deadly attacks in Kenya.

The report is likely to further strain diplomatic relations between the two countries, which had been rocky for quite some time.

According to the report, several influential NISA officials and Al-Shabaab operatives are working closely to frustrate KDF troops who are in Somalia seeking to destroy the Al-Qaeda linked outfit.

It is worth noting that several NISA officials received their training in Kenya. Ironically, they are now conspiring with Al-Shabaab to unleash terror in Kenya.

Al-Shabaab has carried out several deadly attacks in Kenya’s northeastern region for years. The attacks on Kenya’s Northern Frontier Districts mostly target security agents and non-locals.

Further, the report also claims that NISA officials are collecting and relaying intelligence data on Kenya’s security agencies and agents on to Al-Shabaab militants.

The confidential report shows that a top NISA agent, Abdullahi Kulane, signed a cheque worth $1.5m that was then handed over to Al-Shabaab.
