Hon. Abdilahi Mohmud Shire, who is also known as Laga-gole, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Somaliland’s Sool region.
Reports from the region indicate that unidentified gunmen in Lasanod on the night of July 31.
The gunmen then fled from the area immediately after killing Shire. Their whereabouts remain unknown but security authorities are hot on their heels.
It’s not clear why Shire, the head of the local electoral commission, was killed in this manner.
Somaliland security forces and officers arrived at the scene immediately thereafter to launch investigations into the matter.
No person or group has claimed responsibility for Shire’s brutal murder yet.
Abdikani Mohmud Jidhe, Sool’s regional governor, sent his condolences to the family and friends of the slain electoral head.
He directed security officers, forces, and agencies in the area to investigate the crime expeditiously and bring the culprits to book.
