The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, has lauded the recent restoration of full diplomatic ties between Somalia and Ethiopia.
This development signifies a positive step toward regional stability and cooperation, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen peace and security across the Horn of Africa.
Souef was speaking about the recent normalisation of diplomatic relations between Somalia and Ethiopia, which had been at loggerheads for almost one year following the latter’s controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland.
In recent days, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have held talks in Turkey on resumption of diplomatic ties.
