Souef Visits ATMIS Sector 3 HQs in Baidoa to Evaluate Troops’ Preparedness

Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), visited the headquarters of the Sector 3 troops in Baidoa.

Souef was with ATMIS Force Commander Lieutenant General Sam Kavuma, during Monday’s field visit to Sector 3 headquarters in Baidoa and the Diinsoor Forward Operating Base (FOB).

The visit aimed to evaluate the readiness and welfare of the troops stationed there.

During their visit, they met with Brigadier General Besfat Fente Tegegn and other military commanders to discuss the security situation and the ongoing phase three troop drawdown process.

At the Diinsoor FOB, the delegation also engaged with ATMIS troops, Somali Security Forces, local administration officials, and community members to understand their needs and concerns.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts to ensure a smooth transition as ATMIS continues its phased drawdown of troops, handing over security responsibilities to Somali forces while maintaining stability in the region.
