Senior officials from Somalia’s Southwest State have arrived at the frontlines near Deynuunay, a strategic location in the Bay region, as government-aligned forces intensify operations against Al-Shabaab.
The high-level delegation, which includes military and administrative leaders, conducted an on-the-ground assessment of ongoing offensives while delivering reinforcements and supplies to troops engaged in the fight.
Their visit underscores the federal and regional governments’ commitment to dislodging the militant group from remaining strongholds in southwest Somalia.
Military sources indicate that the officials also reviewed tactical plans to strengthen coordination between Danab commandos, local Ma’awisley militia, and African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) forces, aiming to accelerate gains in the region.
The offensive near Deynuunay marks a critical phase in Somalia’s broader campaign to reclaim key territories from Al-Shabaab, which has faced sustained pressure since losing major towns like Dhusamareb and Gal’ad earlier this year.
Authorities remain determined to cut off the militants’ supply routes and financing networks in the Bay region, a longtime insurgent stronghold.
