Madrid, Spain — Spanish authorities have rescued a group of Somali migrants after their boat was found adrift in the Mediterranean, officials confirmed Saturday.
The vessel, which had departed from Algeria two days earlier, was carrying 23 people — 19 men, three women, and a one-month-old baby.
Spain’s maritime rescue service said the operation was carried out safely, and all individuals aboard were in stable condition. They were taken to a port in southeastern Spain for medical checks and further assistance.
The rescue highlights the ongoing risks faced by migrants attempting to reach Europe via dangerous sea routes. Somali nationals are among those frequently fleeing conflict, economic hardship, and instability in the Horn of Africa.
Spanish officials reiterated their commitment to humanitarian rescue efforts in coordination with regional and international agencies.
