The Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People, Adan Madobe, is facing sharp criticism after making derogatory remarks toward MP Mohamed Ali during a chaotic parliamentary session on Wednesday that erupted into a brawl.
Madobe, in his official capacity as the Speaker of the House of the People, mocked the MP’s disability, referring to him as a “physically challenged person.”
MP Ali, a longtime parliamentarian, lost his leg in a 2012 terror attack carried out by Al-Shabaab. His colleagues came to his defense terming the remarks by Madobe as “disrespectful.”
