Special Envoy for Drought Response off to New York to Plead Somalia’s Case

The Special Envoy for Drought Response is to depart to New York to plead Somalia’s case to members of the international community.

Special Envoy Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame announced that he would leave the East African nation on Sunday, September 11.

While in New York, he will attend the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Specifically, Warsame stated that he seeks to draw more attention to the severity of the drought that threatens to push Somalia to famine.

He also plans to hold discussions with Somalis in the diaspora.

Apart from raising awareness, Warsame announced his intentions to seek partnerships.

He would be talking to various governments and financial institutions to convince them to come to Somalia’s aid.

Diaspora groups and the private sector would also get a chance to hear what the Special Envoy for Drought Response has to say.
