The Special Envoy for Drought Response has welcomed the decision to reopen the border between Somalia and Kenya.
Abdirahman Abdishakur, the Special Envoy for Drought Response, welcomed the decision that was announced on July 15.
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia discussed the issue with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday.
On Saturday, Abdishakur expressed his delight at the announcement.
According to Abdishakur, the reopening of the Somalia-Kenya border will improve access to humanitarian support.
He called the decision a “big relief” and a “step in the right direction.”
