SRCS Kicks Off Efforts to Assist Flood Victims in Afgooye

Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) has kicked off efforts to assist victims of the ongoing flooding in Afgooye.

Today, SRCS personnel have volunteered to promote hygiene and dewatering activities around the town to make it more habitable.

Additionally, they have volunteered at the local health clinic to ensure that the facility is capable of providing the services, which the locals need.

Several villages in Afgooye have been submerged in floodwater. The worst hit villages include Aytire, Raqeyle, Damaley, and Balguri.

Consequently, more than 6,500 in these villages have been affected by the floods with more than 3,000 now rendered homeless.

The floods are the result of a heavy downpour that started in early July causing the nearby river to break its banks.

SRCS volunteers have promised to continue offering assistance to the local residents until the situation improves.
