Mogadishu, Somalia – State Minister Hirsi Gaani has called on Somalis across the country to unite in the face of extremism, praising the recent victories of the Somali National Army (SNA) and allied forces against Al-Shabaab.
Speaking during a press briefing in Mogadishu, Gaani emphasized that while military gains mark significant progress, sustainable peace can only be achieved through broad national solidarity. He noted that the extremist threat remains a challenge, but stressed that collective action by citizens and state institutions is the most effective path to restoring security.
“The courage of our armed forces has delivered important successes on the battlefield. But the fight against extremism cannot be won by guns alone. It requires the full backing of our people—through vigilance, cooperation, and rejecting the ideology of division,” the minister said.
Gaani highlighted that public support not only strengthens security operations but also creates the environment needed for displaced communities to return to their homes. He urged citizens to assist security agencies by sharing information on militant movements and by supporting government-led stabilization efforts in newly liberated areas.
The minister further called on local leaders, elders, and religious figures to play an active role in countering extremist propaganda and fostering reconciliation among communities scarred by years of conflict.
His remarks come as government forces, backed by regional allies and international partners, have recently expanded operations in several regions, reclaiming key towns and supply routes from Al-Shabaab control. Authorities say these advances are part of a broader strategy to degrade militant capacity while preparing ground for reconstruction and local governance.
Gaani concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring that displaced families return home safely and with dignity.
“Our mission is not only to defeat the extremists but to restore normal life—schools, markets, and mosques—in every community across Somalia,” he said.
