The students of Ilays Academy in Mogadishu held protests against an alleged attempt by local businesspeople to seize their school’s land for profit-making purposes.
The students, carrying banners and chanting slogans like “We are not selling our school,” called on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to intervene.
They urged the government to prioritize education over commercial interests, highlighting the importance of safeguarding educational spaces for the future of Somalia.
This protest underscores broader concerns about the protection of public institutions amidst rapid urban development and business expansion in Mogadishu.
