Local authorities have confirmed the killing of a respected elder in Mogadishu by people suspected to be members of the Al-Shabaab militia.
The elder, whose identity remains hidden until next of kin are informed, was killed on Tuesday morning in the nation’s capital.
Reports from witnesses and government officers indicate that he was accosted by gun-wielding extremists who then shot him before leaving the scene of crime.
In the recent past, Mogadishu has witnessed a surge in bomb attacks and assassinations of top government officials, soldiers, police officers, and civilians.
