Swan and Commander of ATMIS’ Ethiopian Contingent Hold Talks in Baidoa

James Swan and the commander of the Ethiopian forces serving as part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) held talks in Baidoa.

Swan, in his capacity as the Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) of the United Nations, held talks with Brigadier General Besfat Fente Tegegn.

Brig. Gen. Tegegn briefed SRSG Swan on several issues at the Sector 3 headquarters in Baidoa.

During their Monday meeting and discussions, Swan and the Ethiopian commander also discussed the humanitarian situation as well as the security in the regional state of Southwest.

The ongoing drawdown of ATMIS troops from Somalia also featured prominently in their meeting.

Ethiopia boasts of a large presence of ATMIS and non-ATMIS forces in Somalia.

Lately, though, the two neighboring nations in the Horn of Africa have not been enjoying solid diplomatic relations.
