The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) of the United Nations James Swan commended Somalia for the measures it is taking to increase women representation in politics.
During his recent address to the UN Security Council (UNSC), Swan provided the latest updates on some of the efforts Somalia has employed.
Specifically, he focused on the steps taken by the federal parliament to introduce new legislation that promotes women’s participation in politics.
Furthermore, Swan also commended the guarantees on the rights of children and protection against female genital mutilation (FGM).
