Taiwan has reiterated its commitment to improving its diplomatic and bilateral ties with Somaliland.
Allen Chenhwa Lou, the Taiwan Representative to Somaliland, made this announcement on August 17.
Lou was speaking during the first anniversary celebrations of the establishment of Taiwan’s Representative Office in the breakaway region of Somaliland.
He also awarded scholarships to Somaliland students who wish to pursue further studies in Taiwan.
Abdirahman Abdallahi Ismail Saylici, the Vice President of Somaliland, was at the ceremony, which took place in Hargeisa.
Other top government officials at the function included Liban Yusuf Osman, Somaliland’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Lou said that August 17, 2020 would go down in history as one of the most important dates in fostering the relations between their two respective nations.
He reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to support and finance emergency and humanitarian assistance in Somaliland.
