Taiwan’s Representative office in Somaliland was officially opened on Monday August 17, 2020.
President Tsai Ing-wen of the Republic of Taiwan announced the official opening of its Representative Office in Somaliland today.
She said the opening of the office marked a “special occasion in the growing diplomatic and trade ties between Taiwan and Somaliland.”
President Ing-wen expressed gratitude to the people and government of Somaliland for according officials from Taiwan warm welcome on this momentous occasion.
Furthermore, she reiterated the fact that Taiwan is keen on “expanding cooperation with its friends in Somaliland.”
She listed several areas of mutual interests to both countries.
President Ing-wen mentioned areas that the partnership between Somaliland and Taiwan will focus on as agriculture, fisheries, energy, mining, public health, education, and ICT.
The office is in Hargeisa, which is Somaliland’s capital.
Representatives from the two nations were at the opening event to raise their respective country’s flag and sign agreements on technical cooperation.
On July 1, 2020, the two governments promised to open representative offices in each other’s territory.
