The government of Taiwan has welcomed the newly appointed Somaliland Representative to Taiwan, who will be based in Taipei.
President Muse Bihi Abdi appointed Ambassador Mohamed Omar Hagi as Somaliland’s Representative to Taiwan.
His appointment followed the announcement in June that the two nations had established diplomatic relations.
In the aftermath of that announcement, Somaliland promised to deploy its Representative in Taiwan soon. Taiwan also promised to send a Representative to Hargeisa.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a message on Twitter welcoming Ambassador Hagi’s tour of duty in the country.
The foreign affairs ministry also stated its belief that Ambassador Hagi would make a fine addition to the diplomatic corps in Somalia.
Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Hagi served as one of Somaliland’s top political scientists and senior diplomats.
