The National Security Adviser, Hussein Sheikh-Ali, along with representatives from the African Union (AU), United Nations (UN), troop-contributing countries, and international partners, have been holding extensive discussions on the transition and financing of the AU Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
AUSSOM is the mission set to replace the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), whose mandate ends on December 31 this year.
AUSSOM, which will have a troop strength of under 12,000 and is expected to last up to five years, aims to support Somalia’s security forces as they take greater responsibility for maintaining peace and stability.
These discussions are critical for ensuring a smooth transition, sustainable funding, and continued international support for Somalia’s security efforts.
