The technical committee that was recently appointed by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to find solutions for the stalled Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) talks has identifies solutions to the impasse.
This was revealed after the technical committee traveled to Baidoa on February 17 for a meeting of all its 14 members.
Following the Wednesday meeting, the technical committee released a statement indicating that its members had identified “technical solutions” that could form the basis of any future electoral agreement between FGS and FMS.
Consequently, the technical committee recommended and called for a meeting on February 18 between the government and regional leaders.
It remains unclear whether politicians from Somalia’s opposition parties would be invited to the Thursday talks. Additionally, the technical committee did not confirm whether the civil society or representatives of the country’s international partners would be present.
