Tensions between Somalia’s federal government and Puntland have reached a boiling point as President Said Abdullahi Deni delivered a sharp rebuke to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, demanding immediate action on stalled reconciliation efforts. Deni warned that continued inaction risks further fracturing Somalia’s fragile unity at a time when the country faces escalating security threats and political instability.
Deni has conditioned Puntland’s return to national talks on three key demands. These are reversal of controversial constitutional amendments passed without Puntland’s input, restoration of the 2012 Provisional Constitution as the basis for negotiations, and guarantees of fair power-sharing and resource distribution between Mogadishu and federal states.
