United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres recently expressed concern over the increasing attacks on schools in Somalia in his latest report on children and armed conflict.
For the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, Guterres is urging all countries to prioritize investments in education and take every measure to protect education and places of learning from violence.
He emphasizes that safeguarding education is crucial for ensuring a better future for children, particularly in conflict-affected areas like Somalia, where the right to education is under threat due to ongoing violence and instability.
The UN Secretary-General cited the many decades that Somali children were unable to receive regular education due to armed conflicts as a cause of serious impediment to their development.
