Thirty-Nine Candidates Register for Presidential Elections in Somalia

Thirty-nine candidates have registered for the upcoming presidential elections in Somalia.

The deadline for the registration of the candidates elapsed on Tuesday, May 10 at exactly 4.00pm.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee for the Presidential Elections closed the three-day registration exercise that kicked off on Sunday today.

Next, the candidates would address both chambers of the federal parliament starting Wednesday, May 11.

The parliamentary committee has already published the order in which the candidates would address parliament.

Ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed will be the first to address parliament on Wednesday at 10.00am.

Nineteen candidates are to address parliament tomorrow.

The remaining 20 candidates would then make a speech before parliamentarians on Thursday. Each candidate has 15 minutes to speak with the legislators.

Incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo would have his moment on Wednesday at 12.00pm.

Ex-Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire would close the entire exercise on Thursday at 5pm.
