Three of Al-Shabaab’s fighters surrendered themselves to Somali National Army (SNA) troops in Hobyo town on Saturday.
Gen. Abdiaziz Abdillahi Abdi, the Commander of SNA’s 21st Division, confirmed the latest development to members of the press in an interview earlier today.
Gen. Abdi said that the three Al-Shabaab militants announced their defection from the extremist group.
Gen. Abdullahi Abdi Qooje confirmed that his troops agreed to welcome any member of the proscribed group who defects.
In 2014, the Federal Government of Somalia announced an amnesty to militants who wish to leave Al-Shabaab and join other countrymen and women in building the nation.
