Senior officers from the Ethiopian military visited Somaliland early this week for talks on security between the two nations.
The meeting is the first between the two nations’ senior military personnel since June when they locked horns over plans by Egypt to set up a military base in Somaliland.
This week’s high-level meeting discussed several security-related issues.
Top on the agenda was the discussion on security cooperation between both sides.
Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, Somaliland’s Minister of Interior, led the delegation from Hargeisa. Abdiqani Mohamoud Ateye, Somaliland’s Minister of Defense, joined him.
Major General Nuh Ismail Tani, the Chief of Staff of Somaliland Armed Forces, also attended this week’s session.
Others were Major General Ahmed Awale Yussuf Libah, Somaliland’s Commander of the Custodial Corps.
General Mohamed Osman Alin, Commissioner of Immigration Department and Somaliland’s Deputy Ambassador to Ethiopia, Barkhad Mohamoud Kariye were part of the team from Hargeisa.
Ethiopia’s delegation comprised General Hussein Hashi Qasim, who heads the Special Liyu Police.
Others were Major General Zewdu Belay, Commander of Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) Eastern Division and Abdirahman Iid Dahir Ethiopia’s Somali Minister of Immigration.
