Top Military Commander from Kenya Leaves Somalia

A top military commander from Kenya has returned home after his one-year tenure with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops ended.

Brigadier Paul Njema traveled back to Kenya on February 27.

Over the last year, he has served as the Commander of AMISOM’s Sector II Unit.

Njema left for Nairobi in the company of other Kenyan soldiers whose mandate with AMISOM forces ended.

Before leaving, Brig. Njema handed over to his successor, Brig. Jeff Nyagah.

Sector II, the unit Brig. Njema led and which Brig. Nyagah takes over, is based at Dhobley.

Further, it is mostly concerned with implementing the Somali Transitional Plan (STP).

The transitional plan details how AMISOM forces would exit the Horn of Africa nation once its mandate expires.
