Somali authorities have placed two regional presidents in quarantine over fear that COVID-19 is escalating in the country.
New figures show that COVID-19 cases are rising rapidly in the country.
The two leaders were identified as Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed alias Lafta Gareen and Mohamed Abdi Waare of Southwest and HirShabelle states respectively.
Authorities clarified that the two leaders are self-quarantined in their residential homes.
Reports indicate that Waare had been in contact with Khalif Mumin Tohow, his Minister of Justice who succumbed to the virulent disease on Sunday.
Hours before Tohow fell sick and had to be taken to Mogadishu for treatment, President Waare led a cabinet meeting.
Officials have indicated that the number of people who might have encountered the deceased minister remains unclear.
Lafta Gareen is self-quarantined over fears that he is asymptomatic. He remains isolated together with Ali Said Fiqi, the Speaker of Southwest Parliament.
The three leaders will remain in isolation and quarantine for the next 14 days in tandem with the guidelines put in place by the World Health Organization for all COVID-19 cases.
