TPEC Chairman Says Ethiopia’s Situation Threatens Peace in the Region

Guled Salah, the Chairman of Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) has called for an end to the ongoing clashes in Ethiopia.

Salah said that the ongoing situation threatens peace in the entire Horn of Africa region.

His comments come in the middle of a heavy infighting in Ethiopia between the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) and Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

The war between the two forces emanated from the decision by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to deploy troops in the area to attack TPLF bases in Tigray.

Consequently, the fight has forced more people to flee their homes and seek safety elsewhere.

“The Ethiopian situation has reached alarming and worrying levels,” Salah said.

“If not resolved quickly and amicably, the situation threatens the prevailing peace in the Horn of Africa region,” Salah continued.

He urged Ethiopia’s neighbors and the international community to intervene to ensure that peace and security prevail.
