Turkey has been helping the ongoing onslaught against terrorists in Somalia.
Reports indicate that the much coveted Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey are currently part of the arsenal that security forces in Somalia rely on in the ongoing operations against terrorists.
Last week, the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) confirmed this latest development.
According to insiders, the addition of the Turkish drones, made by a company known as Baykar, could change the direction of the war against terrorism in the East African nation.
Baykar has close links to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
For years, Somalia has relied on drones supplied or operated by the United States military to launch airstrikes against Al-Shabaab militants around the country.
Ahmed Malim Fiqi, Somalia’s Minister of Interior, has confirmed the use of the Turkish drones in the country.
He confirmed that Turkish drone operators are working closely with Somali commanders to carry out airstrikes.
