The Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Mehmet Yilmaz, has congratulated the leadership of both Somalia and Somaliland for the progress of the meeting between the two nations in Ethiopia.
President Mohamed Abdulahi Farmaajo of Somalia and President Musa Bihi Abdi of Somaliland recently met in Addis Ababa at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Ambassador Yilmaz expressed his pleasure and that of the Turkish government during an interview with VOA Somali.
“We are encouraged by the positive progress the two leaders have made during the first-ever meeting between Somalia and Somaliland Presidents,” Ambassador Yilmaz said.
The Ambassador also hailed the apology that President Farmaajo issued to the people of Somaliland for atrocities committed against them by the administration of President Siad Barre.
According to the diplomat, Turkey sees the recent apology and meeting as the first step in enabling the people of the two nations to solve their differences amicably.
